A field note is a document noting the details of a specific scientific collecting event, as recorded by the collector on site. Field notes often contain valuable information about climatic and ecological conditions. The field notes in this collection span nearly 100 years and document species collected primarily in the southeastern United States. Many of the specimens collected are housed permanently at the Museum. For the current status of any given specimen consult the collection manager of the appropriate discipline.

Rudolph Arndt

Rudolph Arndt was a professor at Stockton State College (now Stockton University) in New Jersey. He and his students collected reptiles, amphibians, and fishes up and down the east coast from the 1970s to the 2000s. In 2004, the Museum acquired the specimens that were collected.

Edward Menhinick

Edward F. Menhinick was a professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for over 40 years.  His book The freshwater fishes of North Carolina is a standard resource for fishery biologists.  He mentored hundreds of students who helped him collect fishes and insects throughout the state. His field notes span the years 1963-1996.
