Oral History Materials
The Oral History Materials digital collection contains interviews conducted and acquired by the Oral History Unit of the State Archives of North Carolina.
Oral histories are long-form conversations that capture unique insights and perspectives on the people, places, and events that have shaped, and continue to shape, our lives and our state. They capture history on a personal level, fill gaps in the historical record, and add context and meaning that is otherwise difficult to capture in traditional records and documents.
Explore oral history projects here, including:
- She Changed the World: NC Women Breaking Barriers
- American Indian Heritage Commission oral history project
- Facing East 158 Voices: Warren County and the town of Macon
- School Integration and Desegregation
This website contains descriptions and, where possible, transcriptions of oral history interviews. Visit the Internet Archive to listen to recordings from this collection.
We strive to make North Carolina Digital Collections as accurate as possible. If you find any errors, please contact us at archives.webedit@dncr.nc.gov.
