The Records Concerning American Indians digital collection documents interactions primarily between the Cherokee and Tuscarora Nations and various government bodies, chiefly the State of North Carolina.
Materials relating to the Cherokee Nation, later known as the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, span from 1719 to 1846, and materials documenting the Tuscarora Nation span from 1712 to 1957. The bulk of the materials include documentation of land sales and purchases, treaty negotiations, and published materials regarding American Indian land claims.
Archival records in this collection contain content and language that may be harmful or upsetting, including language that is offensive or discriminatory.
