Aycock Brown Photographs
The Aycock Brown Photographs digital collection contains images captured by Charles Brantley Aycock Brown (1904-1984) on the Outer Banks (1921-1958, bulk 1949-1957). Brown was a photographer, writer, and promoter of Outer Banks tourism.
The collection includes myriad depictions of daily life on the coast of North Carolina, including recreational fishing excursions, bridge construction, and family celebrations.
It also contains materials relating to the Wright Brothers National Memorial and community events such as Pirates Jamboree, which originated in 1955 to promote tourism in Dare County, and the Lost Colony outdoor drama, which began its historic run in 1937 and is still performed at Waterside Theatre in Manteo today.
The physical collection is available at the Outer Banks History Center.
These materials include visual content and language that may be offensive and discriminatory, and may depict racism, acts of violence, and/or graphic imagery.
