Description

Oral history interview with Willie "Bill" Riddick (b. 1938), who grew up in Winton, North Carolina. Riddick worked at Shaw University and other schools in the state. He also participated in charettes in which community members were brought together to solve problems. In the interview, Riddick focuses on a charette in Durham that discussed full integration of the city school district and was featured in the film Best of Enemies. This interview was conducted by John Horan on February 21, 2022. The Oral History collection contains interviews conducted and acquired by the Oral History Unit of the State Archives of North Carolina. This unit seeks to work with individuals and communities across the state to record and preserve the lived experience of North Carolinians, as told by North Carolinians and to make these histories accessible for generations to come.
