Roxboi'o and Its Future

ROXBORO, tin- county seat of
Person, is located only twelve
miles from the Virginia line,
and this fact lias caused it to lx? too
little known by North Carolina as a
whole. For many years it was with¬
out railroad facilities and roads in
name only. Hut times have changed,
today it is recognized as among the
very liveliest little cities to Ih- found
anywhere; and there are good reasons
for the change. Opportunities are found
here which can not he excelled any¬
where, and strangers coming in our
midst leave singing the praises of the
town and county.
Person County is usually referred
to as an agricultural county, and it is
one of the In-st in the State, but not
alone do we excel in agriculture, we
have manufacturing interests which are
well worthwhile. Here is the home of
the Itoxboro Cotton Mills, controlling
three separate and distinct plants. Col-

Mr. Noell’s paper, the "Roxboro
Courier,” two years ago celebrated its
50th anniversary. It is recognized as
one of the leading papers in the state
for a town of anywhere near its size.
Incidentally, Mr. Noell, who was a
member of the 1933 Senate in the
North Carolina General Assembly, has
been nominated for the same position
by the Democrats in their recent
primary election.
lin.s A- Aikinan, Corp., the largest
plush manufacturing plant in the
South, Somerset Mills, manufacturer
of towels, and several other lessor
manufacturing plants, the pay roll of
these plants running more than two
million dollars annually. Thus, you
see, the town is not entirely dependent
upon the returns from the farms,
though the farm product-, are mighty,
running right close to three million
d'dlars annually.
The town boasts a school system
which is the pride of every citizen,
churches of practically every denomina¬
tion, well paved streets, water system
with almost unlimited supply, which is
drawn from a stream four miles from
tow’ii, unlimited supply of electricity
at a price within the reach of every
one, and is proud of the fact that it is
located on one of the main lines of the
great Norfolk A? Western Railway
Company. In short. Roxboro is the
place for any one looking for a home
where all of the comforts limy be
found, as well as affording an op¬
portunity for those seeking health,
wealth and happiness.
Roxboro and its environs has the
beauty of the rolling Piedmont. Na¬
ture's variety of scenery is always
alluring. Broad meadows, rocky
hills and wooded uplands combine to
prevent monotony and commonplace
views. Beautiful Loch Lily is avail¬
able for bathing, boating and fishing.
Ilugur's Mountain appeals to the
climbers and lovers of solitude. To
those of more primitive instincts, still
Hyco tiunhles through rocks ami hol¬
lows and hills.
Man has cooperated in making Rox¬
boro a beautiful town. All its citizens
are proud of tin- new courthouse, .'land¬
ing in the center of the public square.
Its fine proportions and simplicity of
design are outstanding. The Con¬
federate monument adds dignity, link¬
ing the achievements of the past to the
ingenuity of modern times. Lovely
residences, new and old, overlook hard
surfaced streets.
