Twelve miles of Hogue Hunks is

Another large stretch of North Caro¬
lina's ocean front is on the way to
market.
Л
half do/cn eastern Caro¬
linians have purchased about 12 miles
on the west end of Hogue Banks and
arc laying plans for a high-class
summer-cottage development, includ¬
ing a hotel and necessary facilities for
a community.
This is the cast-west bank which con¬
tains Atlantic Beach, opposite Morc-
hcad City.
The situation on this bank is some¬
what like this: The surf area around
the bridge is completely built up. con¬
taining two hotels and a business and
recreation area. 'I he development thins
out toward the cast, but most of the
building lots there have been sold. The
far eastern end of the beach is in the
Ft. Macon State Park Reservation. A
new development at the fishing pier
has collages for sale.
The Coopers, who own a lot of the
property over here, recently have been
dredging up some firm land on the
sound side near the new bridge and
this is being sold off for residences.
West of this section, the Taylor-
Smilh development of restricted lots
has about finished off all the surf-side
property. Lots back from the beach
are being sold now. The few ocean-
front lots are priced at $4,000.

Meantime, Atlantic Beach itself is
looking for a good season. Alfred
Cooper is planning to put in a Ma-
rineland attraction, with tanksful of
porpoises and other sea creatures, but
Still farther west is the ancient Sal-
terpath community. This interesting
and formerly quaint settlement seems
likely to be a permanent island in a
sea of resort development.
Most of the occupants of this prop¬
erty acquired it by squatters rights. A
small motor court is going up there
now, and there arc a couple of apart¬
ments for rent.
It is planned to extend the high¬
way — which now run 9 miles from
Atlantic Beach to Salicrpath — on down
to Hogue Inlet, which is opposite
Svvansboro at the mouth of the While
Oak River. We understand property
will be offered for sale soon.
