Fifl\ guests were due at a wedding
parly at the Atlantic Beach Hotel. Sun¬
day. June 8. Only 30 showed up. The
other 20 were caught in a terrific traf¬
fic jam which extended from the beach
all the way to U.S. 70 and far up this
main artery. Lucille Downes, man¬
ager of the hotel, said highway pa¬
trolmen reported beach traffic that day
as the heaviest in history. People
around Morchead anticipate continued
and growing traffic as the season pro¬
gresses.
This influx of visitors has tem¬
pered fears a few concession men have
felt about development of Ft. Macon
Stale Park. Instead of hurting busi¬
ness, it has served to siphon off some
of the cars which cannot now find
parking space on the beach. Joe Du-

NEW ROAD
CONVENTION
GOING UP. — A new road is now under construction on Grandfather Mountain,
one of North Carolina's principal scenic attractions in the Blue Ridge Parkway
country, which will make accessible for the first time to motorists the spectacular
views from the crest of its rugged peaks. The new road, which is an extension
of a road leading to the base of the Linville Peak, will Ik* open for travel around

mcrcc secretary, says there probably
will be a general shifting of traffic to
the cast end of Boguc Bank, with the
new fishing pier, the park, and a fast-
developing residential section drawing
people that way.
Looking to this, it is proposed that
when the new bridge is opened, a
traffic circle be installed on the beach
end of the bridge. The circle would
permit flow of traffic directly to the
present amusement center, or to turn
left toward the east end.
