1872-73. — Chapter 74 — 75.
State, by such person, in such maimer and upon such
terms as the Governor shall direct and appoint,
when to be in Sec. 14. This act shall be in force from and after its
ratification, except those parts of it which contain a dif¬
ferent provision as to the time when they will take effect.
Ratified the 20th day of February, 1873.

AX ACT TO INCORPORATE THE CAROLINA CENTRAL RAILWAY
COMPANY.
corporators. Section 1, The General Assembly of North Carolina do
enact, as follows ; That Silas N. Martin, S. L. Fremont,
Francis \V. Rickner, Edward Matthews, Horatio G. On-
derdonk, Timothy S. Porter, Andrew Y. Stout, James S.
Whedbee, Charies H. Roberts and their associates arc
hereby made and constituted a corporation with perpet¬
ual succession, to be known by the name and’style of “the
corporate name. Carolina Central Railway Company, and by that name

aud priv~ shall be capable of purchasing, holding, selling, leasing
and conveying estates, real, personal and mixed, and of
acquiring the same by gift, devise or otherwise, so far as
shall he necessary for the purposes embraced within the
scope, object and intent of this charter ; and by their
corporate name may sue and be sued, plead and be im¬
pleaded in any court of law or equity in this State ; and
may have and use a common seal which they shall have
power to alter at pleasure; and may from time to time
make all such by-laws, rules and regulations as they may
deem proper and necessary for their government, and
(he interest of said company, not inconsistent with the
Constitution and laws of this State and of the United
States. And they may forthwith or when they elect
