BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, in 1967, the North Carolina General Assembly designated the first Friday following
the 15lh of March as North Carolina Arbor Day; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina trees help reduce the erosion of our precious topsoil by wind and
water, cut heating and cooling costs, moderate our temperatures, clean our air, produce life-giving oxygen
and provide habitat for our wildlife; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina trees are a renewable resource, providing paper, wood for homes, fuel
for our fires and countless other wood products; and
WHEREAS, in cities, North Carolina trees increase property value, enhance the economic vitality
of business areas and beautify our communities; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina trees, wherever they are planted, are a source of joy and spiritual
renewal;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BEVERLY EAVES PERDUE, Governor of the State of North Carolina,
do hereby proclaim March 16, 2012, as “ARBOR DAY” in North Carolina, and urge all citizens to
support efforts to protect trees and woodlands, and plant trees to gladden the heart and provide for the
well-being of this, and future, generations.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of
North Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this tenth day of February in the year of our Lord two thousand
and twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-sixth.
