As Our Slate began celebrating 65 years of North Carolina
culture and heritage, we wondered about the people and places across the state that
might share our birthday. The search turned up a list as eclectic
as North Carolina barbecue. What follows is a cross section of 10 distinguished
65-year-olds in the Tar Heel State. The folks, places,
and entities on this list are either 65 now or will reach that age by the end of the year.
