ORANGE COUNTY MULTIPLE PROPERTY DOCUMENTATION FORM
"HISTORIC RESOURCES OF ORANGE COUNTY"
Introduction
Methodology
The 1992-1993 comprehensive survey of Orange County's historic
resources was completed in two phases. In Phase 1, Kelly Lally
and Ruth Little surveyed Chapel Hill Township in the spring of
1992 and documented 158 historic properties. In Phase 2, Jody
Carter and Todd Peck surveyed the land outside Chapel Hill
Township and the Hillsborough city limits from October 1992 to
July 1993. In this phase, 507 historic structures and complexes
were recorded.
Jody Carter and Todd Peck were the Principal Investigators for
Phase 2 of this project. Jody Carter has a
В
. A. in Anthropology
from the University of Tennessee. Todd Peck received a B.A. in
History from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Both consultants have completed coursework in the Masters of
Historic Preservation program at the University of Georgia.
Fieldwork for phase 2 began in October 1992 and concluded in July
1993. Working with USGS quadrangle maps, the consultants drove
every accessible road in the survey area to identify resources
that were at least fifty years old. All 507 properties and
complexes were recorded with State Historic Preservation Office
computer forms, documented with black and white photography.
