No. 429 Raleigh, n. C. April 16, 1965
N. C. PEACH PROSPECTS GOOD
The April 1 condition of the peach
crop indicated production prospects were
85 percent of normal. This cannot be
compared with last year since a late
March freeze pratically destroyed the
crop. Last year’ s production totaled
250, 000 bushels as compared with the
1958-62 average of 1,330,000 bushels.
Pull bloom this year is expected
to be about a week later than usual.
Trees in the main area of production
were expected to be in full bloom
about April 2.
Baring damage from a late frost
and with favorable temperature and
plenty of moisture, crop prospects
in the Sandhills area are expected to
be good this year.

NORTH CAROLINA
WHEAT CROP DOWN 33 PERCENT
Based on reports received from
North Carolina farmers, wheat production
for the State is estimated at 5,140,000
bushels. This production if realized,
would be 33 percent below the 7,728,000
bushels produced last year and with the
exception of 1962, would be the smallest
crop since 1934.
Soil moisture and weather condi¬
tions were favorable for small grains
the first three months of this year
and a good quality wheat crop is in
prospect.
UNITED STATES
Winter wheat production is forecast
at 1,037 million bushels, 1 percent
larger than the 1964 crop and 7 percent
above the 1959-63 average. The April
