Physical Description: 43 items, consisting of correspondence, deeds, land
plat, will, estate papers, power of attorney, tax lists, receipts,
accounts, and promissory note.
Acqaisition: Given by William I. Procter, 1521 Jarvis Street, Raleigh,
June 29, 1968.
Description: The Jennie Marriott Collection contains material on the
Marriott. Procter, and Moore families. The collection is centered
aroung the donor's grandmother, Eliza Jane (Jennie) Marriott Procter
Moore.
There are various items from the Marriott family: will of Mary
Marriott (1864); tax lists of J. C. Marriott (2) and of the estate of
Benjamin Marriott (n.d.); land plat drawn for William Marriott (1805);
and various deeds (1812-1849) concerning land in Wake County. There
are also various miscellaneous receipts and a few papers concerning
the estates of J. K. and Dr. John C. Marriott.
The are eight letters (1848-1853) to Jane Marriott from her first
husband, Isaac Procter, before their marriage in 1853. A resolution by
Hiram Lodge No. 40 concerns Procter's death in 1857, and there are three
items concerning his estate. There are several items concerning the
couple's son, Ivan Procter, including two deeds — one to land in Wake
County (1877) and one to land on New Bern Avenue, Raleigh (1891). There
are several miscellaneous documents concerning the New Bern Avenue
property, including the results of a title search for the property from
1830 to 1891.
In 1869, Jane Marriott Procter married William C. Moore, and there
are three items concerning Moore, one deed (1877) and two receipts.
Among the miscellaneous items in the collection is an invitation
to the funeral of Mrs. J. M. Moore in 1878.
