Description: The collection primarily consists of copies of items pertain¬
ing to the Cherokee Indian Nation during the Eighteenth and Nineteenth

Line — l802," copyrighted in 1966 by James M. Puckett. This account contains
a brief biographical sketch of Colonel Return Jonathan Meigs (17UO-1823),
copies of letters, a map, reports, lists, vouchers, and a diary giving de¬
tails of the survey of the boundary between the Cherokee Nation and the
State of North Carolina as supervised by Colonel Meigs (1802).
A second item prepared by James M. Puckett is a sketch or report on
Christian Gottlieb Priber (1697-post 17Ui). The court proceedings, con¬
temporary accounts, and newspaper descriptions which make up this report
give details concerning the activities of Priber, who lived among the
Cherokees during the 1730’s and attempted to draw all Southern Indians in¬
to an independent confederation which would be administered along commun¬
ist lines.
The remainder of the collection consists of Revolutionary War service

McLeod of Macon County, N. C.; Creek Indian War (I8I3-I8II4) service records
for George Guess (alias Sequoyah) of the Cherokee Indian Regiment; and
