Brazilians Complete
Training in LTA
A group of Brazilians, officers
and men, have completed train¬
ing, as given at Lakehurst, in
lighter-than-air work, according,
to a statement released recently
from Lakehurst. The officers took
the Airship Training School course
for designation as naval aviator
(airship), and the enlisted men
were put through the Enlisted Air¬
ship Training School and the Air¬
ship Overhaul and Maintenance
School.
They are to receive their re¬
quired operational or field train¬
ing in an operating blimp squa¬
dron which, appropriately, will be
a U. S. squadron based in the
Brazilian area. Ultimately, they
will take over their own airship
operations and thus they will be
the first representatives of a na¬
tion other than the United States
to operate modern blimps.

Navy's Traditional
Change of Command
Ceremony Observed
New CO Brings Varied War
Service io This Command
The parade ground south of the
Administration Building was the
scene today of one of the Navy’s
most impressive ceremonies. At
0920 following personnel inspec¬
tion Lt. Commander Robert D. Mc¬
Naull, USNR, read his orders as¬
suming command of this station
and relieving Commander Her¬
bert E. Horn, USNR, who has been
in command here since October
1944.
The new Commanding Officer
is a graduate of the University of
Alabama, class of 1935. He enter¬
ed the service in 1936 receiving
his commission as Ensign in the
First Battalion of the Organized
Reserves based at Toledo, Ohio.
For his training he took the usual
round of summer instructions and
cruises on Destroyers and Gun¬
boats, one of which, the Gunboat
USS Wilmington, had participated
in the Boxer Rebellion.
In 1941 he transferred to the
Battalion based in New Orleans
and soon after — in March — was
called to active duty and ordered
to report to ComOne for duty as
the Executive Officer of the USS
Ostrich, a minesweeper. The Os¬
trich was based in Boston and
took part in the North Atlantic
Neutrality Patrol in which the
Navy engaged previous to our en¬
try in the war. Later that year
the Ostrich was transferred to
duty working out of Galveston,
and it was from there that Mc¬
Naull was detached and given Act¬
ing Command of the Section Base
at Pelican Spit — in January 1942.
After several months duty at this
base he was again ordered back
to the USS Ostrich as CO.
Change to LTA
Orders for training in LTA came
through and in December of 1942
