EASLEY JOINS THE CAT IN THE HAT’ TO CELEBRATE READ ACROSS AMERICA Will Read to Elementary School Students in Raleigh and Greensboro RALEIGH - Gov. Mike Easley and ‘The Cat in the Hat’ will be teaming up today to celebrate national Read Across America. Easley will read his new children’s book, "Look Out College, Here I Come, ” to students at Washington Elementary School (1000 Fayetteville Street) in Raleigh on March 2 (TODAY! at 10:00 a.m. He will read "The Cat in the Hat ” by Dr. Seuss and his book to pre-kindergarten and elementary students at Hampton Leadership Academy (2301 Trade Street) in Greensboro at 2:20 p.m. Read Across America is an annual national program sponsored by the National Education Association, which focuses on reading motivation and awareness. The month-long program begins each year on or around the birthday of Dr. Seuss, which is March 2nd. At 2:36 p.m. in Greensboro, Easley will join students, educators and families all across the nation who will read the 236 words of “Гйе Cat in the Hat." The Cat in the Hat and the NEA Cat-A-Van will be stopping at both Washington Elementary and Hampton Leadership Academy with the governor. The Cat in the Hat will give each student a copy of “The Cat in the Hat, ” a Cat in the Hat hat and other gifts. Directions to Washington Elementary School: Take 1-40 to South Saunders Street (exit 298 B). Follow South Saunders Street to South McDowell Street. Take the Western Boulevard/Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard exit and turn right onto Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. Turn right onto Fayetteville Street.
