H 189 (2017-2018) WATER SAFETY ACT (NEW). Filed Feb 23 2017, AN ACT TO IMPLEMENT MEASURES TO ADDRESS "GENX"
AND OTHER EMERGING CONTAMINANTS.
Senate amendments make the following changes to the 3rd edition.
Amendment #1 adds to the research the North Carolina Policy Collaboratory (Policy Col laboratory) is charged to conduct after
identifying faculty expertise within the UNC System, using technology and instrumentation existing throughout the UNC
System, to include studying the air emissions and atmospheric deposition of GenX and other emerging compounds.
Amendment #2 provides that of the funds appropriated to the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) to implement the
act, $8 13.000 can be allocated to the Division of Water Resources for nonrecurring expenses for time-limited positions and
operations support, specifically: (1 ) for the collection of air and water quality samples related to GenX and other emerging
contaminants that are delivered to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) or to an entity designated to perform
analysis of the samples by the Policy Collaboratory and (2) to address National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System
(NPDES) permitting backlogs. Makes conforming changes.

RECONVENED PURSUANT TO SECTION 3. ID OF RESOLUTION 201 7-12. AS AMENDED BY RESOL UTION 201 7-1 7. AND
FURTHER AMENDING RESOLUTION 201 7-12.
Amends Resolution 201 7-12, as amended, providing that when the House and Senate adjourn on Tuesday, February 13, 2018,
they stand adjourned to reconvene in regular session on Wednesday, May 16. 2018. at noon. Adds to the bills that may be
considered during the regular session that reconvenes on May, 16, 2018:
• Bills revising the judicial divisions of the State, the superior court districts, the district court districts, and the prosecutorial
districts and the apportionment of judges and district attorneys among those districts and containing no other matter;
• Bills revising districts for cities, counties, and other political subdivisions of the State and the apportionment of elected officials
among those districts and containing no other matter;
• Bills revising the Senate districts and the apportionment of Senators among those districts and containing no other matter;
• Bills revising the Representative districts and the apportionment of Representatives among those districts and containing no
other matter; and
• Bills revising the districts for the election of members of the House of Representatives of the Congress of the United States and
the apportionment of Representatives among those districts and containing no other matter.
