H 2728. SUPPLEMENTAL RETIREMENT BOARD OF TRUSTEES. Filed
5/27/08.
TO CONSOLIDATE THE
BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR THE NORTH CAROLINA 401 (K) PLAN AND THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF
THE NORTH CAROLINA PUBLIC EMPLOYEE DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLAN INTO THE
SUPPLEMENTAL RETIREMENT BOARD OF TRUSTEES.
Amends GS 135-91 as title indicates. Enacts new GS 135-96 establishing the Supplemental Retirement
Board of Trustees to administer the Supplemental Retirement Income Plan and specifying membership
requirements and appointment authority. Amends GS 143B-426.24 to remove the membership requirements and
appointment authority for the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina Public Employee Deferred Compensation
Plan and transfer its administrative authority effective July 1, 2008, to the Supplemental Retirement Board of
Trustees. Makes conforming changes. Effective July 1, 2009.
Effective July 1, 2008, establishes a transitional Board of Trustees to administer the Deferred Compensation
Plan and the North Carolina 401 (k) Plan from July 1 , 2008, through June 30, 2009. Specifies membership
requirements and appointment authority for the transitional board.

H 2729. INCREASE FIRE AND RESCUE PENSION. Filed

TO INCREASE THE MONTHLY PENSION
FOR MEMBERS OF THE FIREMEN'S AND RESCUE SQUAD WORKER'S PENSION FUND AND TO
APPROPRIATE FUNDS TO REPAY THE FIREMENS AND RESCUE SQUAD WORKERS' PENSION FUND IN
FULL
Appropriates $620,491 for 2008-09 from the General Fund to the Department of the State Treasurer to repay
the Firemen’s and Rescue Squad Workers’ Pension Fund in full for funds not transferred to the Fund in 2001 with
interest. Also amends GS 58-86-55 to increase monthly pension for any member of the Pension Fund from $167
to $172. Effective July 1, 2008.

TO DIRECT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
TO STUDYAMENDING ITS STANDARDS FOR PLACEMENT OF SOUND BARRIERS IN ORDER TO
PROTECT RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITIES LOCATED NEAR ITS FACILITIES, AS RECOMMENDED BY THE
JOINT LEGISLATIVE TRANSPORTATION OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE.
As title indicates. Requires the Department of Transportation to report its findings to the Joint Legislative
Transportation Oversight Committee by October 1, 2008.
