TWENTY-FIVE ADDITIONAL SLOTS FOR THE STATE GOVERNMENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM.
Appropriates $44,408 for 2007-08 and $85,259 for 2008-09 from the General Fund to the Department of
Administration, Youth Advocacy and Involvement Office, as title indicates. Effective July 1, 2007.

H 1908. SPECIAL PLATE FOR AIDS AWARENESS. Filed

TO AUTHORIZE THE DIVISION OF MOTOR
VEHICLES TO PRODUCE A SPECIAL PLATE FOR AIDS AWARENESS IN NORTH CAROLINA.
Amends GS 20 -63(b) to add AIDS Awareness to the special registration plates that do not have to be a “First
in Flight" plate. Amends GS 20-79.4(b) to authorize issuance of the AIDS Awareness plate and specifying the
appearance of the plate. Makes changes to GS 20-79.7 to provide a $25 fee for the plate and direct that the fee
be distributed as follows: $10 to the Special Registration Plate Account and $15 to the Collegiate and Cultural
Attraction Plate Account (CCAPA). Amends GS 20-81.12 providing that the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
must receive 300 or more applications for the AIDS Awareness plate before the plate may be developed. Directs
that DMV transfer quarterly the money in CCAPA derived from the sale of AIDS Awareness plates to the Alliance
of AIDS Services-Carolina for its programs in support of AIDS awareness in North Carolina.

TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS TO THE
DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE FOR ACTIVITIES AND OPERATIONS OF THE NORTH CAROLINA
INSTITUTE OF NANOMEDICINE.
Appropriates $15 million for 2007-08 from the General Fund to the Department of Commerce for the
development and furtherance of the nanomedicine industry. The funds are to be allocated for operations of the
North Carolina Institute of NanoMedicine, managed by a consortium of Winston-Salem State University, Forsyth
Technical Community College, and Wake Forest University, in amounts listed for purposes specified in the bill.
Effective July 1 , 2007.
