TO PROVIDE A SMALL BUSINESS
INCOME TAX EXEMPTION. Amends GS 105-131.1 (taxation of an S Corporation and its shareholders), adding a
new subsection providing that before computing the income attributable to the State, an S Corporation may
subtract $25,000. Effective for taxable years beginning on or after January 1, 2006.

H 2496. INCREASE MIN SALARY FOR TEACHER ASSISTANTS. Filed

TO INCREASE THE
MINIMUM SALARY OF TEACHER ASSISTANTS TO THE EQUIVALENT SALARY OF PAY GRADE 56 FOR
STATE EMPLOYEES. Effective July 1 , 2006, provides that permanent full-time teacher assistants whose salaries
are supported from the General Fund must be paid a minimum salary of at least $20,268 per year. Appropriates
from General Fund to Department of Public Instruction $2,706,537 for 2006-07 to implement this provision.
