Hon. Locke Craig
Governor of 'North. Carolina
Raleigh N. C.
Lear Sir:-
1 understand that there ie a movement on
foot to defeat Dr. Ira M. Hardy for Superintendant of the
School for the Feeble Minded at Kinston, by means of removing
two of the trustees whose terms expire, and filling their
places with men who are opposed to him.
Knowing that if this is the case, that you are
in a position to control the situation,! am writing you
without the knowledge or solicitation of Dr. Hardy, to see
that trustees favorable to him are appointed by the
Legislature, as 1 do not believe that a position of this
kina should be dependant on politics.
Lr. Hardy of course was the father of the bill
creating the school, and he conceived the idea from the
fact that his own child was afflicted, and he recognized
the need of such an institution.
So naturally his appointment by the past admin¬
istration was looked upon by the people of Beaufort County
and the town of Washington as a fit recognition of his
zeal and enthusiasm, irrespective of political alignments
or factions. Lr. Hardy is held in high esteem by all who
know him in this section, and we believe him to be capable
and efficient , and eminently qualified to fill the position.
