the lame to himfelf and his Succeffors, Governors and Commanders in Chief of this
Province ; and upon fuch Conveyance and Conveyances, his Excellency the Gover¬
nor is hereby requcfted and impowered, as loon as may be, to contract and agree
with proper Perfons for defigning, erefting, and completely finilhing a good Dwell¬
ing- H jufe, with all neceiTary Offices, for the Ufe cf himfelf, and his Succeflors,
Governors and Commanders in Chief, in and over this Province-, and that the plan¬
ning, defigning, building, and finifliing the laid Edifice and Offices, fhall be under
the foie Direction and Management ot' his Excellency the Governor, or fuch Perfon
or Pcrions as he fhall appoint, till the fame is completely built and finilhed : And
the laid Lots of Land, with the Houles, Buildings, and other Edifices thereon to be
erected, fiu!!, and is hereby directed to be for the Ufe of his Excellency the Gover¬
nor, and his SucceiTors, Governors and Commanders in Chief in and over this Pro¬
vince, for ever.
III. AND be it further Enabled, by the Authority afore fid, That his Excellency
the Governor, as oiten as he fhall haveOccafion of Money for the Purpofes afore-
faid, may, and is hereby authorized to iflue his Warrant to one or both of the Trea-
furers of this Province, requiring him or them to pay fo much Money as he fhall
have Occafion for, not exceeding the Sum of Live Thoufand Pounds, Proclamation
Money; which the laid Treafurers are hereby required to pay to his Excellency the
Governor, upon his Warrant, out of the Money appropriated by Act of Afiembly
for erecting of Public Schools, and purchafmg Glebes.
IV. AND for replacing the faid Sum of Five Thoufand Pounds into the Hands
of the Treafurers of this Province by the Time appointed for the finking of the fame;
Be it Enacted, by the Governor, Council, and Affernbly, and by the Authority of the fame,
That an Annual Poll-Tax of Eight Pence, Proclamation Money, be levied on each
taxable Perfon in this Province, for and during the Term of Two Years, from and
after the 1- irlt Day of January next-, to be collected by the Sheriff of each refpeftive
County, on or before the Firlt Day of March in each Year: And that all and every
Perfon neglefting to pay the faid 'Pax at the faid Firft Day ol March, fhall be liable
to fuch Diftreis, to be made by the Sheriff, as for Non-Payment of other Taxes -,
and the Sheriff of each refpeftive County fhall, on or before the Tenth Day of June,
Yearly, pay into the Hands of the Public Treafurer of the Diftrift, all fuch Sums
of Money as each and every one of them fhall have received in Virtue of this Aft,
under the fame Regulations and Directions, and like Fines and Penalties, as are
direfted and inflicted in ocher Afts for collcfting of Public Taxes.
V. AND be it further Enabled, by the Authority aforefaid, That an additional
D uty of Two Pence, Proclamation Money, be paid for every Gallon of Wine, Rum,
and diftilled Liquors, imported into this Province, either by Land or Water, from
any Pore or Place wbatfoever ( Great-Britaiu excepted) after the Firlt Day of Janua¬
ry next, for and during the Term of Two Years next enfuing; which faid additio¬
nal Duty fhall be collefted by the fame Officers, and accounted for in the fame
Manner, and under the fame Regulations, as other Duties on Wine, Rum, and dif¬
tilled Liquors imported into this Province, are direfted and paid into the I lands of
the Trealurers, towards railing the faid Sum of Five Thoufand Pounds, for the
Ufes and Purpofes as in this Aft direfted.
CHAP. III.
An Abl appointing the Method of diflributing Intejlates Efiatcs.
I. E it Enabled by the Governor, Council, and AJfembly, and by the Authority of
the fame, That all and every Perfon or Perfons to whom Adminiltradon on
the Eftateof any Perfon deceafed fhall hereafter be granted, fnall diftribute the Sur¬
plus of fuch

laid Surplus to the Wife of the Intellate, and all the reft by equal Portions, to and
