to return, with an Account of their Proceedings, to the next Inferior Court of Pleas and Quarter Sef-
lions to be thereafter refpeflively held for the Counties a fore fa id ; and the j Li Sices of the laid refpec-
tive Courts are hereby directed to receive the fame, and are thereupon ordered and authorized to appoint
fomany Overfeers of the faid Road within tlreir refpeftive Counties, as to the laid j unices (hall, from
Time to Time, appear convenient and necefiary ; and the faid Overfeers, and the inhabitants of the
faid Counties, refpeftively, being contiguous to the faid Road, lhall be fubject* to open, clear, and
work on the fame, fo to be marked. Halted, and laid out as aforefaid j under the fame Regulations,
and lhall be liable to the fame Fines and Penalties, preferibed and infliited cn Delinquents, by an Act
of Aflembly, intituled, An Ael to empower the Inferior Count of tbe J'evera i Counties tit tbit Province to
ordtr the laying ottt of public Roads, and eftablifb and fettle Ferries ; and to appoint where Bridges Jhatt be
built, for the Vfe and EaJ'e of the Inhabitants of this Province, and to clear navigable Rivers and Creeks.
CHAP. XXV.
An AHi for annexing Part of Northampton County to the County cf Bute.
I, ITTHEREASthe Inhabitants of the upper or weftermoft Corner of Northampton County labour
VV under great Inconveniencies, in attending the Courts, and other public Meetings, of the
faid County, at the Court-Houfc thereof ; and being more convenient for thole Purpofcs to the County
of Bute, ate defrrous of being annexed theieto :

F. it Enabled , by the Governor, Council , and AJfembly, and by the Authority of tbe fame. That
Tbomai Eaton, lli/Iie 'Jones, and Benjamin Perfon, Inquires, be, and are hereby appointed CoinmifE-
oners ; and they, or the Majority til them, ate required and directed, within Three Months after the
palling of this Act, to run and mark (or caufe the fame to be done) a l ine from Roanoke River Bank,
oppolfte the Mouth of Stone Hon/e Creek, a due North Courfe to the dividing Line between this Pro¬
vince and the Colony of Virginia ; and all that Part bounded to the Ealbvard, by the Line above di¬
rected to be marked, and to the Northward by the Virginia Line, to where it crofies Roanoke River,
lhall be, and is hereby annexed to, and made Part of the County of Bute ; and the Inhabitants thereof
fli all be fubject and liable to the fame Rules, Orders, Taxes, and Privileges, as any other of the In¬
habitants of the faid County of Bute.
III. PROVIDED always. That nothing herein contained lhall be con'trued to hinder the She¬
riff of the County of Northampton from collecting or dillraming for any Taxes, or Arrears of Taxes
now due, and which he, as Sheriff of Northampton, is or may be accountable for, lrom any Inhabi¬
tants within the Bounds above deferibed.
CHAP. XXVI.
An Am for eflabli fhing a Town on the Land cf William Gray, on Cufhie River, in
Berric County.
J. 1TTHEREA.S it hath been reprefenced to this Aflembly that the Land of IVilliam Gray, lying
VV on the South Side of CuJI.de River, at a Place known by the N-me of G> ay’s Landing, in
Bertie County, is a pleafant and healthy Situation, and commodious lor Trade and Commence ; and
the faid William Gray having acknowledged his free Con font to have One Hundred Acres ol the faid
Land laid off for z Town, which will greatly promote the Trade and Navigation of the laid River :

E it therefore Enabled, by the Governor, Council, and AJfembly, and by the Authority cf the fame.
That the faid One Hundred Acres of Land, beginning at a Stake by a final I Branch on the River Side,
and running thence North Folly Two Degrees Weil One Hundred and Sixty Eight Poles; then
North Twenty One Degrees Eaft Forty Poles ; then North Sixty Five Degrees Ball One Hundred and
Twenty Two Poles, to the Centre of a Hickory, White Oak, and Maple, on the laid River Side ;
and then down the Meanders of the faid River to the Beginning ; laid off in Lots and Streets, with
Pait thereof for a Common, according to a Plan laid before this Affcmbly, be, and the fame is hereby
courtitutcd, erefled, and eflablilhed a Town, and lhall be called by the Name of Windjbr.
III. AND be it further Enabled, by the Authority aforefaid. That from and after the palling of this

Stanley, Gentlemen, be, and they and every of them, are hereby conftiiutcd Dircflors and Trultees,
for defigning, building, and carrying on the faid Town ; and they lhall Hand feized of an indefcaliblc
Eftate, in Fee-Simple, of and in the faid One Hundred Acres of Land, laid oft' as aforefaid, to and
for the Cfes, Intents, and Purpofes, hereby exprefled and declared; except Four Lots, known and
deferibed in the aforefaid Plan by their refpeftive Numbers Eleven, Twelve, Eighty Four, and Eighty
Six, which arc- hereby referved, to the only Ufe and Behoof of the Arid IVilliam Cray, his Heirs and
Afligns, for ever : And the faid Diieitors, or any Three of them, lhall have full Power and Authority
to meet as often as they lhall think neccffaty ; and to appoint a public Quay, at fucti Place on the faid
River, within the Bounds of the faid Town, for a public Landing, as to them lhall feem meet.
