J.E. Broyhill Civic Center Announces 2008-2009 Season, a
True “Showcase of Stars!”
The stars will be out for thej .E. Broyhill Qvic Center's 2008-2009 season, which will offer a wide-range of
entertainment sure to delight audiences of all ages. From bluegrass to rock-n-roll and comedy to drama,
there’s something for every taste.
The J .E. Broyhill Civic Center will kick-off its “Showcase of Stars" with DavyJ ones - Monkee's Memories
on Saturday, September 20, 2008. Maintaining his allure as a sexy icon through generations of fans, Davy
J ones fust invaded teen hearts as the inter¬
national idol of millions in the 1960s Emmy
Award winning television classic The
Monkees. Since the show hit the small
screen, Davy has triumphed as both a serious
actor and a comedian on the theatrical stage;
as a rock musidan, composer and artist
Spend an evening with Davy J ones of the
Monkees as he takes you on a journey of
Monkee’s Memories with music, film dips
and stories.
On October 11, the Qvic Center will present
The Whites with The Lovell Sisters. For those who have heard The Whites before, that's good news indeed
- and for those who haven't, this concert will be an exdting introduction to a rich, yet comfortable musical
world The Whites are bluegrass royalty carrying on a rich tradition steeped in history and experience.
Beginning the evening will be a relatively new act on the bluegrass scene, The Lovell Sisters. This all girl
bluegrass sensation features the tight harmonies of The Lovell Sisters with an innovative fusion of country,
folk, and contemporary acoustic music. The Whites with the Lovell Sisters will be a night of great music for
bluegrass, country, and folk fans of all ages.
Taking the stage on October 2 1 will be Capitol Steps. The Capital Steps began as a group of Senate staffers
who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them. In the years that followed, many of
the Steps ignored the conventional wisdom ("Don't quit your dayjob! "), and although not all of the current
members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total
of eighteen Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience. In
a year when politics has taken center stage, The Capital Steps will have more fodder than ever for their hilar¬
ious show. Take a break from the mudslinging and enjoy a night of comedy!
On October 30, catch the Sues Brothers Revival. Upbeat and uplifting. Blues Brothers Revival is fun for all
ages. A homage to Chicago's rich history of blues, gospel and traditional soul music. The Blues Brothers
Revival is the hippest, most authentic Blues Brothers show ever to hit the stage - these guys aren't messin’
around ! This live stage musical combines the hits from the original movie as well as the five popular albums
put out byj obn Belushi and Dan Aykroyd The musical is presented by thej obn Belushi Estate and Judy
Belushi Pisano.
