Spring & Summer
Programs for 20 1 0
The Powder Magazine
VOLUME 2, ISSUE 2
SPRING 2010
2nd Saturdays at North Carolina Historic Sites
Visit Fort Fisher State Historic
Site on the second Saturdays of
June, July, and August 20 1 0, and
experience a remarkable
partnership of our cultural
history and our local arts
community. In an exciting
initiative, all North Carolina
Historic Sites and Museums will
join together to celebrate our
arts and heritage in a unique
way. Every “2nd Saturday” this
summer, look to your local
State Historic Site or state
museum for fun, innovative
events!
On Saturday, June 12, Fort
Fisher will explore the
historical landscape around us
with a new lens. Local artists
and photographers, particularly
those who work with
landscapes or
seascapes,
will be selling
their work on
site, as well as
demonstrating their craft.
Visitors will be able to walk
through a recreated Civil War
landscape with a small
Confederate encampment,
costumed tours, and small arms
weapons demonstrations
throughout the day.
New programs will also be
offered on Saturday, July 1 0
(Life on Fort Fisher's
Waterways) where we
examine what life was like living
between the Cape Fear River
and the Atlantic Ocean through
the arts and crafts of North
Carolina's coastal region, and
on Saturday, August 14 (Living
Our Civil War History) as we
look to the vital crafts that date
to the mid- 1 9th century.
If you are interested in
participating in our programs as
an artist, please contact Amy
Manor Thornton at (9 1 0) 458-
5538 x502 or
amy.thornton@ncdcr.gov. We
will work to match artists with
the most appropriate themed
program. Space is available on a
first come, first served basis.
