Perdue Appoints Parsons to Superior Court Bench in Duplin, Jones and Sampson Counties RALEIGH - Gov. Bev Perdue has appointed W. Douglas Parsons to the Superior Court bench for the 4A Judicial District, which covers Duplin, Jones, and Sampson Counties. He will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Russell Lanier, Jr. “Doug has excelled in the legal profession and played leadership roles in his community and for the state,” Gov. Perdue said. “He is extremely well qualified to serve the people of North Carolina as a Superior Court Judge.” Parsons is currently in private practice in Clinton and specializes in criminal law. He is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and has written and lectured extensively on legal issues. He has been active in numerous bar organizations in North Carolina and has served on various boards and commissions, including the Board of Trustees for Sampson County Community College and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. He received his law degree from Wake Forest University and his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Parsons was one of three lawyers nominated by the Judicial Nominating Commission for appointment by Gov. Perdue to fill this vacancy. ###
