THIS INDENTURE made and entered into this 3rd day of July,
1918, by the Trustees of The Elizabeth City Graded Schools of Pasquo-
tank County, North Carolina, parties of the first part, J. S. Manning,
Attorney General, Trustee, of Wake County, North Carolina, party of
the second part, and The State Board of Education of the State of North Carolina, party of the third part,
WITNESSETH:
That the parties of the first part, for and in consideration
of the sum of Five Dollars in hand paid them by the party of the
second part, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, have bar-
gained and sold and by these presents do bargain, sell and convey
to the party of the second part, his heirs and assigns, that certain
parcel or lot of land situate in the town of Elizabeth City, State
and County aforesaid, and more particularly described as follows:
Situate on the East side of Shannon Street, and fronting
on said Street about 123 or 125 feet, and bounded on the South
by Brown Street, on the East by the lot of L. G. Roper (formerly
belonging to Stark Martin) and on the North by the lot of Isaac
Leigh, said lot being about 165 feet deep. For further descript-
ion see Deed recorded in the office of the Register of Deeds
of Pasquotank County, N. C. in Book number 29, page 463.
TO HAVE AND TO HOLD the aforesaid tract or parcel of land
together with all privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging or
in anywise appertaining to the said party of the second part, his heirs and assigns, in fee simple and forever.
BUT THIS DEED IS MADE UPON THIS SPECIAL TRUST, nevertheless,
that whereas the said first parties are indebted to the third party
in the sum of ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS as evidenced by their note of even
date herewith payable five years after date with interest from date
at the rate of six percent; and whereas said first parties desire to secure the payment of the said note and interest on the same as it
becomes due.
