CCC&TI's J.E. Broyhill Civic Center presents “Laughing with
the Legends: Music, Merriment and Memories from the
Fabulous 50s.”
The J.E. Broyhill Civic Center in Lenoir will present “Laughing
with the Legends,” a humorous look at the 1950s, on Saturday,
October 27 at 7:30 pm.
Come have a blast from the past and relive the Fabulous
Fifties! Many of the songs and unforgettable legends from the
1950's are brought vividly to life as the ever popular, multi-tal¬
ented team of “Gurl & Girl” present a fun filled two hour pro¬
duction featuring singing, dancing, costumes, comedy skits,
red hot piano playing, audience participation, and of course -
fabulous impersonations. The show will bring to life many
memorable 1950s songs and personalities from television,
Broadway, movies and pop culture using song, dance, colorful
costumes, impersonations, musical numbers and theatre.
The show is produced by husband and wife team Joey
MacDonald and Brian Gurl, known professionally as “Gurl
and Girl” and based in Burnsville, NC. Together for over
twenty' years, and having traveled extensively around the
country, Gurl & Girl - along with their Broadway director -
have produced a high energy, personable show that’s clean, fast paced, and most of all ... load's of fun!
They recently completed seven years of sell out performances at Holland Michigan's Tulip Festival where
they have established themselves as one of the Festival's most popular acts. They have also performed to
rave reviews at The Festival of Lights in Niagara Falls N.Y. and many other theatres and performing arts
centers throughout the Southeast as well as in Florida where they have been on tour over the last several
winters.
One of the highlights form the show includes an energetic tribute to a 50s era Elvis Presley - complete with
Joey as the swooning and screaming teenager (audience participation encouraged). And making full use
of his piano skills, Brian offers a wild Jerry Lee Lewis impersonation preceded by ... you guessed it ...
Liberace! - remembering his early 50s television show. Described in a recent newspaper review as a “com¬
bination of Vladimir Horowitz, Roger Williams and Liberace," Brian later wows the audience with a bril¬
liant piano solo paying tribute to Rogers and Hammerstein's “The Sound of Music.”

Joey lights up the stage with a hilarious Lucille Ball routine from her original 1950's TV show' - selling vita-
meatavegamin - and later performs a sultry Marilyn Monroe singing "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend”
and “My Heart Belongs To Daddy.”
The show builds to a wonderful finale with a delightful musical comedy segment that further exemplifies
“Gurl & Girl's” polished acting skills. It features two hilarious 50's nerds who drink love portion # 9 and
magically transform into a poodle skirted beauty and hip greaser and is topped off with a wild 50's jitter¬
bug dance routine at the high school sock hop! With all its variety and comedy, “Laughing With The
Legends is a show truly enjoyed by all ages ... from 9 years old to 90!
So come have a blast from the past and experience “The Fabulous 50's. With this first class production,
