4-H YOUTH SCIENCE DAY
2010
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, 4-H is committed to preparing 1 million young people to excel in science, engineering and
technology by the year 2013; and
WHEREAS, the need for science education, especially outside the classroom, is critical to our country's
ability to remain globally competitive; and
WHEREAS, 4-H and other out-of-school programs that focus on science, engineering and technology are
an important part of educating and developing leaders who are well-trained and technically competent; and
WHEREAS, businesses across our State and nation will continue to need well-qualified, scientifically-
trained professionals to drive science, engineering and technology advancements on a global scale; and
WHEREAS, our 21s1 Century global economy will be driven by science, engineering and technology; and
WHEREAS, 4-H’s educational programs have reached 241,000 youth in North Carolina and 6 million
youth nationally; and
WHEREAS, children, parents, teachers, schools and youth organizations have the ability to participate in
fun, accessible, science-related activities that encourage youth exploration and experimentation at an early age; and
WHEREAS, experts at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University have developed the
2010 National 4-H Science Experiment, 4-H20, and are in full collaboration with North Carolina 4-H, which is
supported by North Carolina A&T and North Carolina State University, and also by business, educational and
national partners; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina 4-H, and its collaborators and partners, seek to involve thousands of North
Carolina students in the 4-H National Youth Science Day on October 6, 2010;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BEVERLY EAVES PERDUE, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby
proclaim October 6, 2010, as “4-H YOUTH SCIENCE DAY” in North Carolina and urge all citizens to encourage
young people in science, engineering and technology pursuits, and to support this worthwhile observance.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of North
Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this seventh day of September in the year of our Lord two thousand and ten, and of
the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-fifth.
