Comings and Goings
As of July 1 Jaime Huaman, GovDocs Library Assistant will be
the Government Information Specialist/Lecturer at the University
of North Carolina at Wilmington's William Madison Randall
Library. Jaime has served in several capacities with the Clearing¬
house, first as a part-time outreach specialist where she used
social media, webinars and other tools to promote the North
Carolina State Publications Clearinghouse. In 2009 she created
the Government and Heritage Library Blog and has been
blogging the State Doc Pick of the Week for most of the time
since. Of all the state documents she blogged about. Jaime said
her two favorite posts have been Venomous Snakes of North Car¬
olina and Creating a Crop Maze with GPS.
Later Jaime worked as the State Documents Technical Assistant
where she processed all the incoming state publications, both
print and digital. She created and helped to create research
guides for the North Carolina State Government Publications
Collection. Jaime will continue to work with state documents as
she oversees Randall Library’s government document collection.
Now that she will be working at one of North Carolina's deposi¬
tory libraries, Jaime will be on the receiving end of documents
disUibuted through the State Publications Clearinghouse.

Denise Jones joined the Clearinghouse May 1 as the State Publi¬
cations Clearinghouse Liaison. This position provides outreach
from the Clearinghouse to the state agencies. The role had been
vacant since Kurt Brenneman left in September. Denise has
already updated some of the Clearinghouse materials for the
agencies, such as a brochure, the Clearinghouse’s agency hand¬
book and FAQ. She has been reestablishing contact with agen¬
cies to introduce herself, offer assistance and remind them of the
need to send their publications,
both print and digital, to the
Clearinghouse.
Denise was research manager at
the News & Observer for more
than 10 years and as such spent
much time contacting state
agencies for information and
documents.
Denise is looking forward to
working with the numerous state
agencies to help increase the
number of documents coming
into the Clearinghouse, and to
increase agencies’ awareness
and knowledge about resources
available to them through the
Government and Heritage
Library.

Ensuring Democracy
Grant Complete
During the past 3 years, the En¬
suring Democracy Through Digi¬
tal Access grant has digit¬
ized 48 1 . 1 00 pages and 3 1 1 fold-
outs from 1,294 volumes of print
state publications. The Ensuring
Democracy grant was a collabo¬
ration between ECU. UNC-CH.
and the State Library of NC. The
scanning portion of the grant was
completed in early spring and all
of the publications have been
added to the digital North
Carolina State Government Pub¬
lications collection. Some high¬
lights of the project include the
redesign of the web site for the
North Carolina State Publications
Collection, the creation of more
than 50 lessons plans using digital
state publications for K-12
students (the lesson plans are
under the Educator Tools tab on
the web site) and the creation of
five subject based research
guides. Even though the grant is
complete, the web site will
continue to be updated, new
publications will be added to the
collection, and the Clearinghouse
staff will continue to create new
research guides. If you learn of
any lesson plans using state
publications that should be added
to our collection, please contact
Jennifer Davison
(iennifer.davison@ncdcr.gov).
