The presidents of International Salt.
Organon, and the three Armour com¬
panies remained in their jobs when the
Companies were combined. The gen¬
eral manager of Brand-Rex as an Enka
division stepped up to the presidency
of Brand-Rex as a company. Maurice
H. Winger, who moved up to president
of the American Enka C'o.. had been a
vice-president, running the fiber con¬
cern's largest division.

Ak/ona. Inc., is a new name devised
for the combination. A majority inter¬

zona is owned by a Nether¬
lands concern, AKZO N.V.. which was
responsible for the establishment of
American Enka at Asheville in 1928
for the then relatively small scale pro¬
duction of rayon yarns. Enka grew into
a very large producer of rayon, nylon,
and polyester yarns and fibers at Ashe¬
ville and at Lowland. Tennessee. It is
building two new fiber plants at Clcm-
son. S. C.
The Enka materials go mainly into
clothing, carpets, upholstery, draperies,
blankets, sheets, bedspreads, sanitary
products and automobile tires. A large
research staff works at Enka on ideas
for the future.
As for the 46-year-old, often-pro¬
moted Ramsey, there at the top of the
Ak/ona heap — is it a bit disconcerting
to find himself at the end of the pro¬
motion road, as it were? Not a bit.
“Things look bright." he said. “Ak-
zona has momentum, and has the finest
people anywhere. And where, than
Asheville, is there a better place to
live?"
The Asheville Chamber of Com¬
merce probably will promote him right
away for that last remark.

The Potters Museum
( Reproduced with permission from " Carolina Country “)
The age-old craft of pottery making
seems as old as man himself. For cen¬
turies man has been digging clay out of
the ground and skillfully shaping it into
various shapes to fit his personal needs.
Many pottery relics of yesteryear
can now be seen in the new Potters
Museum located one mile north of Sea-
grove on U.S. 220.
The museum is housed in the old
railway depot building which once
stood in the town of Seagrovc. The
depot waiting room and agent's office
have been fully restored.
There are all types and sizes of pot¬
tery housed in the museum. Jugs,
crockware. churns and even a “little
brown jug" make up the collection
