President Parker Headed to Guilford Tech
After seven years as
president of Vance-Granville
Community College, Dr.
Randy Parker will leave his
post at the end of August
to accept the presidency of
Guilford Technical Com¬
munity College. On Sept.
1, Parker will succeed Dr.
Donald W. Cameron, who
is retiring after 20 years at
the helm of the state's third-
largest community college.
Parker became the
fifth president of VGCC on
Sept. 1, 2004. Previously, he
served as vice president at
DR. RANDY PARKER
Lenoir Community College
in Kinston, where he began
his own higher education.
In 1972, Parker earned an
associate in applied science
degree from LCC. He later
earned a bachelor's degree
from the University of North
Carolina at Charlotte and
a master’s degree and doc¬
torate, both from N.C. State
University.

Fall Registration Ends August 11
The Fall 2011 semester at VGCC begins Tuesday, Aug. 16. The final period for
registration is Monday, Aug. 8 through Thursday, Aug. 11. Students can register on-
campus or online by going to www.vgcc.edu and clicking on "Web Ad visor." Students
may pay, verify payment or charge tuition and fees online through WebAdvisor or in
person at the VGCC Business Office on Main Campus (or at the campus where they are
enrolled) on the same days as registration. The Main Campus Business Office hours
of operation during registration are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, and 8 a.m.
- 3 p.m. on Fridays. The tuition payment deadline is Aug. 11 — by 5 p.m. if paying in
person, or by midnight if paying online through WebAdvisor. Anyone with questions
about registration should contact the college's main campus at (252) 492-2061 or visit
any of the other campuses for more information.

VGCC will offer new
opportunities for area resi¬
dents to prepare for "green"
careers this fall. Four cer¬
tificates have been added
to the college's curriculum
offerings to help develop a
workforce for today's econ¬
omy, in which environmen¬
tal sustainability and energy
efficiency are increasingly
important. These programs
include the new "Sustain¬
ability Technologies" cer¬
tificate, and certificates that
offer specialized training in
programs already offered by
the college: "Sustainable Air
Conditioning & Heating,"
"Automotive Sustainabil¬
ity" and "Sustainable Elec¬
trical Energies." For more
