Description: William Henry Jones, son of Thaddeus Cornelius and Rebecca
J. (Roberts) Jones, was born at Locust Hill Township, Caswell County,
North Carolina, September 23, 1893* After nine years at Pine Hill
School and two at Yanceyville Academy, he attended high school at
Ruffin, North Carolina. He returned to Pine Hill School as a teacher
for one year and taught another year at Ingold, Sampson County, before
entering the University of North Carolina in 1905., where he remained
two years. For the two years following he taught at Fairview High
School and then again entered the University, receiving his A.B.
degree in education. Jones continued teaching after graduation.
For a year he taught at Durham and was principal of several schools -
Roper High School in Washington County, Rowland High School in
Robeson, South Hill High School and Charlotte Agricultural High
School at Charlotte Courthouse in Virginia, and at Biltmore Schools,
Biltmore, North Carolina he served as principal and superintendent.
He attended summer school sessions at the University of Virginia
and at Columbia University in 1916 and 1921. In

Jones left
teaching to enter the field of Adult Education under the ERA and
NYA with offices in Chapel Hill and Raleigh. He remained in this
work until the program closed out in 19 U3 . After working for
Christian Printing Company and Seeman Printery in Dirham, he
taught a year before taking a position in the Registration
Department of the Hospital Savings Association in Chapel Hill.
He retired in I960.
