WEATHERIZATION DAY

BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina has long recognized the plight of low-income families
and individuals in meeting their home energy needs; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina has a long standing commitment to conserve its resources and help
low-income households through its Weatherization Assistance Program; and
WHEREAS, the Weatherization Assistance Program is a vital part of overall efforts to help
people gain energy-efficient, affordable, and safe housing, and other basic necessities that enable them
to advance socially and economically; and
WHEREAS, the Weatherization Assistance Program not only saves energy through advanced
technologies to improve energy affordability for low-income families, but also saves lives, improves
the health and safety of families by identifying carbon monoxide hazards, poor indoor air quality and
mold, and also improves the natural environment by lowering the demand for natural resources; and
WHEREAS, the Weatherization Assistance Program assists families working toward self-
sufficiency, and also contributes to the improvement and progress of communities by eliminating
carbon emissions, stimulating local economies through the purchase of goods and services, and
stabilizing neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina has administered the Weatherization Assistance Program since its
inception in 1976, providing a variety of state and federal resources through community action
agencies, housing authorities and local government to serve citizens from all 100 counties;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BEVERLY EAVES PERDUE, Governor of the State of North
Carolina, do hereby proclaim October 30, 2010, as “WEATHERIZATION DAY” in North Carolina
and encourage state and local weatherization professionals to deliver cost-effective, advanced
technologies, to increase energy savings in each home served, to leverage state, local, and private
resources to make each federal dollar work harder, and to heighten the awareness of energy efficiency
in communities throughout our State.
