ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONS WEEK
2010
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, allied health professionals constitute approximately 60 percent of all health care
providers; and
WHEREAS, allied health professionals are employed in the public and private sector, schools,
hospitals, clinics, laboratories, nursing homes, mental health facilities, private medical practices,
research institutions, public health services, pharmaceutical companies and industry, and act as
technical advisors in the marketing of medical equipment and supplies; and
WHEREAS, the demand for allied health professionals will continue to increase because of the
aging of the State's population, the continuing expansion of life-sustaining technology, and the growth of
home health care services; and
WHEREAS, allied health professionals are critical in providing cost-effective and safe
health care services to the citizens of North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, allied health practitioners are an essential part of a health care team and are vital to
improving access to high quality health care; and
WHEREAS, the Council for Allied Health in North Carolina, along with the Association of
Schools of Allied Health Professions, Health Professions Network and other interested parties, join the
State of North Carolina in recognizing the week of November 7-13, 2010, as National Allied Health
Professions Week in celebration of allied health professionals who are instrumental to maintaining high
standards of health care and to responding to health care needs;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BEVERLY EAVES PERDUE, Governor of the State of North Carolina,
do hereby proclaim November 7-13, 2010, as "ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONS WEEK" in North
Carolina and urge all citizens to commend this observance.

Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this fourth day of October in the year of our Lord two thousand and ten. and of
