Basketball Court named after Coach Dawson
BY RICHY HUNEYCUTT
When Lenoir Community College
Head Basketball Coach Bobby Dawson
stepped on the basketball court during
homecoming this year, things were a
little different.
It wasn't because on Feb. 9 he
coached his 929th game or that he cel¬
ebrated his 522nd win. This time when
he stepped on the basketball corn! in
front of a packed house, the court was
dedicated as the Coach Bobby Dawson
Court, honoring the man who has dedi¬
cated more than 33 years to the college
What’s Inside
and the sport.
Dawson coached the Lancers to a
75-65 victory that night over visiting
Johnston Community College. The win
gave Dawson a winning record of 522-
407.
Known for his sharp dress appear¬
ance, Dawson and his assistant coach
Tad Parson have donned suits to coach
the Lancers throughout the years. “No
matter how bad we might look playing,
we will always look good doing it,” he
said.
