EASLEY ISSUES STATEMENT ON DEATH OF PRESIDENT GERALD FORD Condolence Book Placed In The State Capitol Rotunda RALEIGH - Gov. Mike Easley issued the following statement today on the death of President Gerald Ford, the 38th president of the United States: “I join all Americans and North Carolinians in expressing our condolences on the death of President Gerald Ford. He was handed leadership of our nation during an unstable time when confidence was shaken. He will be remembered for restoring integrity to America and leading the nation with a steady and healing hand. We are grateful for his long and dedicated public service.” The Governor has ordered all state flags to be flown at half-staff and all U.S. flags will be flown at half-staff at state buildings as well. Easley has placed a condolence book, that will be sent to the Ford Presidential Library in Ann Arbor, Mich., in the Rotunda of the Capitol in Raleigh for citizens to share thoughts and expressions of comfort. ### Governor's Press Office State Capitol.
