GOV. EASLEY ANNOUNCES 60 JOBS IN MARTIN COUNTY
$ 120,000 One North Carolina Fund Grant Helps Quintiles Open Data Processing Center
RALEIGH — Gov. Mike Easley today announced that Quintiles Transnational Corp., a pharmaceutical services provider,
will open a data processing center in Martin County, creating 60 new jobs and investing $400,000 over the next three
years. The announcement was made possible in part by a $120,000 One North Carolina Fund grant.
“Quintiles decision to open a facility in Williamston is excellent news for the hardworking people of Martin County,”
Easley said. “Companies in the pharmaceutical, biotech and healthcare industries know that in North Carolina they will
find a workforce with the knowledge, talent and skill they need to succeed in the global economy.”
Quintiles Transnational Corp., which employs more than 1,100 people at its headquarters in Research Triangle Park, will
open a data processing center for clinical trials in Williamston. While wages will vary by job function, the expected
average weekly wage of the new jobs is $576 plus benefits, which is higher than the Martin County average weekly wage
of $508.
"Quintiles has long found North Carolina an excellent place to grow our business. While we have operations in more
than 50 countries worldwide, Williamston offers the right match of people and technology to expand our data processing
services in line with customer demand,” said Paula Brown Stafford, executive vice president. Global Data Management.
“Quintiles should be commended for bringing these important jobs to rural eastern North Carolina,” said Sen. Clark
Jenkins (D-Edgecombe, Martin, Pitt). “I hope other companies will follow their lead.”
“This is an exciting opportunity for Martin County,” said Rep. Edith Warren (D-Martin, Pitt). "The new jobs will be a
tremendous boost to our area and we look forward to a great future with this company.”
The One North Carolina Fund assists the state in industry recruitment and expansion by providing financial assistance
through local governments to attract business projects that will stimulate economic activity and create new jobs in the
state. One North Carolina Fund grants require and are contingent upon a local match. Through the use of this Fund, more
than 21,000 jobs and $3 billion in investment have been created since 2001.
Other partners who helped make this announcement possible include the N.C. Department of Commerce, Martin County,
the Town of Williamston, the North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center, the Golden LEAF Foundation and
the Northeastern North Carolina Regional Economic Development Commission.
