DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND CONSUMER SERVICES** EASLEY MAKES APPOINTMENTS TO ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT COMMISSION RALEIGH - Gov. Mike Easley has appointed Tom Ellis of Raleigh and reappointed Marion Elliot Deerhake of Raleigh, Leo Green of Wilson and Larry Jordan of Apex to the North Carolina Environmental Management Commission. Ellis is the director of aquaculture and natural resources for the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. He has served as a liaison in several positions for the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services since 1975. Ellis has served on the board of directors and as an officer for several organizations, including N.C. Hunters for the Hungry, Kiwanis Club of Uptown Raleigh and the Triangle Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Deerhake and Green have served on the commission since 1997. Jordan has been a commission member since 2000. He is the president of L.G. Jordan Oil Co. Jordan served as mayor of Apex from 1981 to 1989 and served on the Apex Board of Commissioners from 1971 to 1979. He also served in the N.C. House of Representatives from 1991 to 1992. Jordan attended Louisburg College and East Carolina University. The commission grants permits regarding controlling sources of air and water pollution, issues special orders to people causing pollution and conducts investigations of any killing of wildlife or fish. It consults with those who construct, install or acquire an air or water pollution source and encourages local governments to handle air pollution problems.
