State Library Unveils Digital Repository
The State Library of North Carolina Digi¬
tal Repository debuted in April 2008. By
July, the repository had 4 collections and
over 200 titles, all of which are full-text
searchable and freely and publicly avail¬
able online.
The largest of these collections is the
“North Carolina State Publications Col¬
lection." It contains over 150 current
and historical documents produced by
North Carolina government agencies.
Popular topics in the collection include
health and safety, legislation, education,
and business. The collection will con¬
tinue to grow as more items are added
monthly.
The collection "From Crossroads to Capi¬
tal: The Founding and Early History of
Raleigh, NC" is a joint project between
the State Library and the North Carolina
State Archives. It focuses on Raleigh's
first 50 years (1792-1842), and show¬
cases original documents, maps, legisla¬
tion, and published resources.
In addition to these new collections, the
digital repository now contains some of
the library's earlier digital collections
that have been updated and expanded
to include new items and research.
The "Eugenics in North Carolina" collec¬
tion recounts the state's sterilization
movement from 1929 to 1977. It in¬
cludes government publications, legisla¬
tion, articles, and propaganda related to
the topic.
The "History of Malaria in North Caro¬
lina” showcases the impact of malaria
on the state from the colonial days to
current times and includes health statis¬
tics, case studies, and early scientific
papers, including 26 new documents.
