Spring is a time of hope and renewal - and
caution, as we await the word of legislators whose
decisions will shape the future of the Department
of Administration’s mission, including its possible
embrace of new programs and opportunities.
The Governor’s draft budget, while subject to
change, provides expanded funding for several vital
DOA programs, including those implemented by
the Commission of Indian Affairs, Mail Service
Center and Veterans Affairs. In addition, it requests
funding for new engineering positions and creating
HDTV capabilities at the Agency for Public
Telecommunications.

We are hopeful that these matters will receive favorable consideration by the members of
the General Assembly, and that belt-tightening measures we were asked to make will not
affect the high quality service citizens and business partners have come to expect from the
Department of Administration.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to encourage each of you to participate in the
upcoming Komen Walk for the Cure, which will be held June 14 at Meredith College.
Pledge funds raised by DOA’s team - The Administriders - will count toward our State
Employees Combined Campaign efforts. Last year’s team raised more than $2,000, which
helped to jumps tart our record-breaking total of $36,472!
If you can’t join the team, please consider sponsoring it or making a pledge to an
individual walker. With your help, we can do even more to help those in our community
who most need out support. To learn more, here is a link to the team website:

Surplus Featured in PSA Campaign
State Surplus Property Officer Randy
Lee was featured in a series of public
service announcements promoting State
Employee Appreciation Week. The
annual campaign is sponsored by the
State Employees Credit Union.
“We were pleased to have Randy tell
citizens about the great things going on
at Surplus.” said Margaret Jordan, who
coordinates the project for the Office of
Slate Personnel.
Lee told listeners that Surplus is the
state’s “ultimate recycler” by making
items no longer needed by the state
-ranging from office supplies to jets
- available to the public at discount
prices. Sales at the Division return about
$20 million annually to state coffers.
Other Departments featured in this year’s
campaign include Correction, Cultural
Resources, Environment and Natural
Resources, and Transportation. They were
scheduled to run on radio stations across
North Carolina May 4-10.
