No charge is made to boarders for rooms, heat, or light. Each girl is furnished with bedstead, mattress and pillow. Each girl is expected to do some work. Girls unable to pay
full amount for board may work out part of it. This number, however, is limited, and sucb aid is given only in consideration of
excellence in scholarship. deportment and willingness to work.

THE t. Michael Church and Indu trial chool was founded in 18 !l
by Rev. P. P. Ai ton. It i one of the chool of the Prot· tant Epi opal
Church. There were 8 teachcr and 265 tudent in 1908. The annual
expense of about $3,000 are s cured by olicitation.
The school first began it work in an old, tim -worn shanty, with 6 children.
In twenty-five year it had reach d more than 3,500 children. Morc than • •
153 had been add d to the hurch from th chool, and there had been more
than 2. 00 childrcn in the unday- hool from time to time.

indu trial lines by the choo!. Many colored girls in Charlottc and vieinity
receive their instruction in cooking and dome. tic economy in St. Michael'
choo!. uch are able to make honest living for themselve and have no
trouble in procuring employment. The motto of the chool i "Religion,
morality, hone ty, indu try, elf-reliance, truth, good manner, and politene
to all."
