EASLEY ANNOUNCES 250 NEW JOBS FOR HALIFAX COUNTY ROANOKE RAPIDS – Gov. Mike Easley announced today that PCB Piezotronics Inc. will locate a new manufacturing facility in Roanoke Rapids, bringing 250 new jobs and about $5 million in additional investment to the area. PCB, one of the world’s leaders in the design, development and manufacture of laboratory and industrial grade sensors, is the 17th recipient of the new state Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) award. “PCB Piezotronics decision to locate a new manufacturing facility in Halifax County means 250 new high-tech, highly skilled positions for 250 hard working North Carolina families,” said Easley. With economic investment tools such as JDIG, our high skilled workforce and our #1 ranked business climate, we will continue to locate and keep quality companies such as PCB Piezotronics in North Carolina.” PCB Piezotronics, a subsidiary of PCB Group, is headquartered in Depew, New York and has more than 500 employees. With a presence in both the automotive and aerospace industries, the compnay’s clients include Ford, General Motors, General Electric and NASA, as well as a diverse array of other domestic and international firms. This year’s projected revenue for PCB Piezotronics is expected to reach $53 million and PCB Group is on track to reach $75 million. PCB Piezotronics will move into the 50,000 square-foot Halifax Industrial Center shell building in Roanoke Rapids and be fully operational by 2005. The new positions will primarily include manufacturing and assembly positions with an average annual compensation of $26,000. "PCB Piezotronics is pleased to announce our first operation in North Carolina," said David Hore, co-president of PCB Group. “This expansion will allow our manufacturing capabilities to keep pace with the strong demand for all of our sensor product offerings. The decision to expand into North Carolina instead of expanding in our existing New York State operations was a difficult decision, but was made easier by the smooth and flawless economic development process in North Carolina.
