MICHAEL F. EASLEY GOVERNOR BEEF MONTH 2008 BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA A PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, according to the 2007 North Carolina Agriculrural Statistics Book published by the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, there are currently over 830.000 cattle in North Carolina that provide a variety of food, leather and other products to the cirize.ns of this State; and WHEREAS, according to the 2007 North Carolina Agricultural Statistics Book published by the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. North Carolina farmers raise beef cattle in all i 00 C()Unties; and WHEREAS, because of cooperation between beef producers and the North Carolina Cattlemen's Association, North Carolina Department of Agricultu re and Consumer Services. North Carolina State University, North Carolina A&T University and allied industries, thousands of farms are flourishing across the State; and WHEREAS, according to the 2007 North Carolina Agriculrural Statisri'cs Book published by the NC Department of Agriculrure and Consumer Services, beef and beef products are naturally nutrient rich, providing Americans with a high quality source of protein, iron, zinc and B vitamins, leading nine out of ten households tO serve beef at least once every two weeks; and WHEREAS, according to the 2007 North Carolina Agricultural Statistics Book published by t11e NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, more than 19,000 North Carolina operations generate more than $220 million in cash receipts each year making the beef industry yet another part of the total diversification of agriculru re in this state; NOW, THEREFORE, I, MICHAEL F. EASLEY, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim June 2008, as "BEEF MONTH" in North Carolina and commend this observance to all our citizens. ' IN WITNESS WHEREOF, ! have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Great Seal of the State of Nonh Carolina at the Capitol in Raleigh this thirtieth day of May in the year of our Lord two thousand and eight, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-second.
