Description: Photograph of the Tonsil and Adenoid Clinic, Elizabeth City, N.C., May 1922, part of a state-wide program of clinics for the removal of diseased tonsils and adenoids of school children. In 1917, George Cooper was appointed the Director of the N.C. State Board of Health's Bureau of Medical Inspection in Schools, and in 1919, he instigated the tonsil and adenoid clinics.
