Miss Clara M. Crawford was Alamance County’s first librarian. She began working
at the library in 1920.
First Bookmobile
Alamance County’s first bookmobile program was established in the late 1930s.
Notable Stories
Alamance County’s headquarters library is named May Memorial Library for
industrialist William Henry May, Sr. who donated money for the first permanent
location in 1938 in memory of his wife.
