CHAPTER IX.
AN ACT TO INCOKrOKATE THE SILVER HILL KAIL ROAD
COMPANY.
Corporators. SECTION 1. The General Assemljhj of North Carolina
do enact, That lor tlie purpose of coi]structiDf>; a Eail Eoad,
to be used and operated by steam, horse, or other motive
power from Silver Hill in Davidson County, to tlie nearest
practicable and convenient point on the ISTortli Carolina
Eail Eoad, Franklin Osgood, George C. Irwin, E. E. Ben-nett,
J. B. Stafford, Tliaddeus Ford, Henderson Adams, P.
A, Long, and such other persons as they may associate with
them, their successors and assigns are hereby constituted
and declared to be a body politic and corporate, in fact
and in law, by the name and style of the Silver Iliil Eail
Powers of corpor- Eoad Company, with all the corporate powei^s and author-

ity hereby created and granted, to be held and exercised by
said Company and their successors and assigns in perpe-tuity
; and in that name shall have power to purchase, re-ceive,
hold, possess and enjoy, sell, and convey real and per-sonal
estate, to have and use a common seal, altei-able at
their pleasure, to pass sucli by-laws, rules and regulations
tor their f^overnment, not inconsistent with the laws of this
karate, as may be necessary to carry into effect the objects,
ii.id conduct the affairs of the corporation ; may sue and be
sued, plead and be impleaded, and shall have and enjoy all
the rights of similar corp"»rate bodies, under the laws of this
State to survey and condemn land for right of waj^ and all
other purposes necessary to carry into effect the objects of
said Company, and shall generally have and possess all the
rights, privileges and immunities, and be subject to the lim-itations
and restrictions of corporate bodies under the laws
of this State.
