ESTABLI 'RED by an act of the General As embly of orth
Carolina. The school wa opened in the fall of 1893. The
citizen of Green boro donated 14 acres of land, and gave
11,000 for buildings. The tate added $10,000. The main
building, erected 1893, i one of the finest chool edifices in North
Carolina. A large dormitory co ting $6,000, and a mechanical
building, costing $9,000 have been added, and the expenditure
of $7,000 has supplied the college with one of the finest and most
modern equipments in the South.
The management of the property is vested in a board of sixteen
trustees elected b." the General Assembly for a term of six years.
The United States Government, under the" Morrill Act," join
with the state in maintaining the institution. There were 14
teacher and 194 students in 1908. The student repre ented
49 counties of North Carolina and 6 tates. The departments
of the college are academic, teacher training, agricultural,
mechanical, dairy, and the industries.

FOUNDED 1892. Property valued at $35,000, vested in the
state of orth Carolina and the trustees. The approximate
annual expen es, $6,000. Ten teachers, 385 students. The
normal department follows the regulation course, and in the
industrial department special emphasis is made on agriculture.
The agricultural work of the school includes class-room work of
the theory of agriculture and farm work with students' labor.
Peabody State Normal School, Alexandria, La.
John B. LaFarque, President
PEABODY STATE 1 ORMAI" SCHOOL was founded in 1899 by
John B. LaFarque. The value of its property is $20,000. The
annual expenses are about $4,000, secured from the state and
from donation. In 1908, there were 351 male and 395 female
tudents, the average age of the pupils being eighteen years.
