It i located eighteen mile east of Vi k burg and twenty-eight
mile we t of Jaek on, Mi . The chool has 1,300 acre of

land and 8 prominent buildings. The value of the property is
$75000. The annual expenses approximate $18,000.
. The Faurop, containing reception room and a large chapel
hall. is the main buildinO', and wa erected in 1897 by tudent
labor.

THI chool has been conducted since the fall of 1892 in
propert' located on Duncan Street. In 1900 thi property
was purchased for the chool. Its value is $4,000;
which wa a gift from Kentucky churche .
From twenty-five to thirty-five young men are in attendance.
The chool wa e tablished to meet the demand for educated
mini tel'S among the colored people. The young men are
taught the Bible and trained in preaching the Word and in the
admini tration of God's hou e. The chool differs from most
theoloO'ical chool in three particular : First, in limiting its

Description	Highlights the many North Carolina schools for African Americans that sprang up in the decades following the Civil War. Also included are statistical portraits furnished by the church organizations that sponsored the majority of the schools, as well as short biographies of more than 60 African Americans, some of them with North Carolina ties, who were affiliated either with a church or with the Negro Business League. Additionally includes a biographical sketch of Abraham Lincoln and the texts of the Emancipation Proclamation and the Gettysburg Address.
